The renovation team which undertook the work is expert in maintaining the architectural features of local traditional buildings; they transformed it into a striking home, using solid modern construction techniques, in combination with a style that exemplifies the former character of Corfu's village houses. Wherever possible, they reused original elements of the construction, and where this was not possible, they replaced them with genuine materials salvaged from elsewhere. Exposed stone and subtly coloured limewash paint are used on the exterior walls, while indoors tradition blends with comfort. Features such as wall alcoves have been incorporated into the decor. Despite insensitive renovations over the last few decades (over-rendering of old stonework, plastic paints, aluminium windows etc), Varipatades, with its winding streets and stepped alleyways, has retained much of its prettiness; this house, like the nearby Cottage, shows how the aesthetic environment can profit from a return to tradition.
